Ulysses S. Grant Memorial

Das Ulysses S. Grant Memorial, das sich direkt vor dem Capitol befindet, war ein weiterer meiner bevorzugten Plätze in Washington. General Grant kann als der Robert E. Lee der Unionsstaaten des amerikanischen Bürgerkrieges bezeichnet werden. Letzten Endes war er es, der die Unionsstaaten zum Sieg über Lee und damit über die Südstaaten führte. Nach dem Krieg wurde er zweimal als Präsident gewählt. Ich habe dieses Foto im Anschluß an meine Capitolbesichtigung gemacht. Immer, wenn ich meine Handschuhe auszog um ein Foto zu machen hatte ich das Gefühl, daß mir vor Kälte die Hände abfrieren würden.

The Ulysses S. Grant Memorial in front of the US Capitol was another of my favourite places in Washington. General Grant can be discribed as the Federal counterpart to the Confederate General Robert E. Lee because he, finally, let the Federal forces to victory against Lee and the Confederacy. After the Civil War, Grant was twice elected as president. I took this picture right after my Capitol sightseeing tour and I felt as I were freezing to death whenever I took off my gloves in order to take a picture of good old Ulysses.
