Capitol Sight-Seeing Tour

Am 17. Januar habe ich eine Besichtigungstour im US Capitol gemacht. Bevor meine Gruppe jedoch hinein gelassen wurde, mußten wir erstmal lange Zeit draußen in der Kälte warten. Als wir dann den Checkpoint am Eingang passierten, wurde mein Rucksack erstmal ausgiebig durchleuchtet. Nachdem wir dann noch einige Zeit auf unseren Führer warten mußten, ging es ins Innere des Capitols. Uns wurde etwas über die Geschichte und die Erbauung des Capitols erzählt. Die komplette Tour dauerte nur etwa dreißig Minuten, war dafür aber gratis. Anschließend bin ich dann ein letztes Mal zum Ulysses S. Grant Memorial (direkt vor dem Capitol) gegangen, um noch einige schöne Fotos zu machen. An diesem Tag war es so kalt (minus 12 - minus 15 Grad), daß ich jedesmal das Gefühl hatte, meine Hände würden mir abfrieren, wenn ich meine Handschuhe zum Fotografieren auszog. Allerdings war, wie auf den Fotos zu erkennen, an diesem Tag so ein herrliches Wetter, daß ich diese "Qualen" in Kauf nehmen mußte.

On January 17th I went to the US Capitol for a sight-seeing tour. First, my group had to wait outside before we could pass the checkpoint at the entrance (it was again damn cold on this day). When we got in, I had to open my bag and it was checked carefully. Then we had to wait for our tour guide. After we got inside the Capitol our guide told us about its history and its erection. The entire tour merely took around thirty minutes but, therefor, it was free. Afterwards, I went to the Ulysses S. Grant Memorial (in front of the Capitol) to take some last pictures of good old Ulysses, the preserver of the Union. Whenever I took off my gloves to take a picture it felt like my hands were frozen (temperature was around 12 - 15 degree) but, as you can see on the pics in my album, the weather was splendid on this day - barely a cloud in the sky - so I had to make a use of this situation.
