Entgegengesetzt meiner Erwartungen sind die Washingtonians sehr politikinteressiert. Die überwiegenden Mehrheit von ihnen sind Demokraten, wodurch Präsident Bush keinen leichten Stand in Washington hat. Das selbe gilt für Maryland. Im Gegensatz dazu sind die Mehrzahl der Einwohner Virginia Republikaner, so daß das politische Geschehen stets sehr interessant war.

In contrats to my first assumption, the Washingtonians are pretty much interested in politics. In Washington itself, most of the people are convinced democrats and President Bush has no easy stand. The same goes for Maryland, the place where I lived. In reverse, the situation in Virginia is the contrary, the majority of the inhabitants are republicans.
