Million Worker March

Am 17. Oktober 2004 fand am Lincoln Memorial eine Demoveranstaltung bezüglich der anstehenden Präsidentschaftswahlen statt. Da ich nichts hierüber in den Nachrichten gehört hatte war es eher Zufall, daß ich an diesem Tag dort hingegangen bin. Zahlreiche politische und religiöse Gruppen waren dort versammelt. Es wurden Reden von Nader- und Camejo-Symphatiesanten gehalten. Sowohl die Republikaner als auch die Demokraten würden ihrer Meinung nach nicht die Interessen der arbeitenden Bevölkerung vertreten. Außerdem wurde die Bush-Regierung für die Anschläge am 11.09.2001 verantwortlich gemacht und die Demonstranten forderten einen unverzüglichen Abzug der amerikanischen Truppen aus dem Irak.
Ich fühlte mich an diesem Tag ein bißchen wie in dem Film Forrest Gump als ich dort stand und mir das Geschehen anschaute.

On October 17th, 2004, two weeks before Election Day, there was a demonstration at the Lincoln Memorial. Since I hadn´t heard about it in the news it was just a coincidence that I got there that day. There were numerous of different political and religious groups on this day. Some of them were supporters of Nader and Camejo. They gave speeches with concern to the election and they challenged both, the course of the republicans under Bush and the democrats under Kerry and that non of them would solve their problems or be interested in the needs and demands of the working people. Both parties were called enemies of the working people and they also claimed a proper retreat of the Ameriacn troops from Iraq. Further more, the Bush administration was blamed for having engineered 9/11.
It reminded me of this scene in the movie Forrest Gump when I witnessed this demonstration.
