Nun war es soweit - am 22. Januar 2005 sollte mein Flieger Richtung Heimat gehen. Ich bin früh morgens gegen 7:45 aufgestanden. Da am Vortag ein schwerer Schneesturm vorhergesagt wurde, wollte ich mir rechtzeitig ein Taxi rufen, um meinen Flug nicht zu verpassen. Als ich aus dem Fenster schaute, waren die Straßen bereits zugeschneit. Die nächsten zwei Stunden habe ich dann erfolglos versucht, ein Taxi zum Flughafen zu bestellen, was sich jedoch wegen der schlechten Wetterlage als aussichtslos erwies. Verzweifelt rief ich dann Carolyn an und sie bot mir an, mich zum Flughafen zu fahren. Gegen 12.00 fuhren wir los. Es dauerte etwa drei Stunden, bis wir den Dulles Airport in Virginia erreichten, da es während der ganzen Fahrt stark schneite. Nachdem ich mich von Carolyn verabschiedet hatte erkundigte ich mich am Air France Schalter nach möglichen Flugverzögerungen wegen der schlechten Wetterlage. Gegen 18:45 (mit etwa 90 Minuten Verspätung) hob meine Maschine dann ab. Während des ganzen Fluges mußte ich wehmütig an die vergangenen fünf Monate zurückdenken und konnte kaum glauben, daß mein Praktikum nun wirklich schon vorbei sein sollte. In Paris hatte ich dann erstmal sechs Stunden Aufenthalt, bis zu meinem Verbindungsflug nach Bremen. Gegen 14:30 landete ich dann am 23. Januar auf dem Bremer Flughafen, wo mich ein Begrüßungskommite erwartete.
January 22th, 2005, time to fly home. Since the weather forecast had forecasted a terrible clipper for this day I was a little worried not to reach the airport on time. I got up at around 7:45 a.m. and when I watched out of the window I saw with concern that the streets were covered with snow already. I spent the next two hours with calling for a taxi but without success. On account of the clipper non of the taxi companies I called was willing to send me a cab. Desperately, I called Carolyn and she, fortunately, offered to take me to the airport. She arrived at around 12 am and then it took us three hours to get to Dulles Airport because of the bad trafic condition and it first stopped snowing a couple of minutes before we arrived at the Dulles Airport. After saying Carolyn good bye I went to the Air France information desk to ask whether there were any delays because of the clipper. Eventually, with a ninety-minute delay, the plane took off at 6:45 pm. During the entire flight I was thinking about the last five months - about the people I got to know and all the places I went to. I barely could (or would) believe that it should be all over now. When we arrived Paris, I had to wait for six hours for my connecting flight to Bremen. I arrived Bremen at around 2:30 p.m. on January 23th, 2006. Home, sweet home!
